Shoulder Bags

I found a really cute messenger bag pattern on http://mmmcrafts.blogspot.com/2009/06/basic-messenger-bag.html and thought it would be neat to make these for Mike's nieces as a Christmas gift. It took us some time to find fabrics that we liked and that matched Megan and Anne's favorite colors. But we eventually found some nice duck cloth, which was stiff enough to make a bag out of, and some really festive cotton batik to match. I appliqued a little animal on each bag, which was by far the most difficult part of the whole bag. The lizard was especially hard since it had so many curves and small toes!! It was a good learning experience and as long as I don't look at the sewing too closely, I am happy with them.

We ended up getting a turquoise color for Megan
and green for Anne. Mike came up with the clever theme of water and land. So Megan got a sea turtle on her bag and Anne got a lizard. I hope they like them!!

Here is Megan's bag:

They do indeed love them. Anne so much so that she emptied out her backpack and now uses her lizard bag everyday for school. We're putting it through and endurance test for you. :-)

Huh, looks like Megan set up a google acct with my email address. That was actually Becky's comment.
